Hello

Healing Through Creativity: A Gentle Path Forward

My name is Tyla. I am an Australian-trained Art Therapist currently awaiting my art therapy registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in South Africa. I am also a specialised wellness counsellor, passionate about supporting individuals in ways that feel safe, meaningful, and empowering.

I believe that healing doesn’t always begin with words.

For many people, talking about what hurts can feel overwhelming. Sometimes emotions are difficult to articulate, or experiences feel too heavy to speak about directly. Art offers another way forward — a gentle, creative pathway to expression when words feel out of reach.

Through art and reflective conversation, I aim to help you express what feels stuck, honour what you’ve been through, and reconnect with hope. If you feel ready to begin this journey, I warmly invite you to get in touch.

My Therapeutic Approach

My practice is eclectic, integrative, and person-centred. This means that our work together is tailored specifically to you — your experiences, your goals, and your pace.

I draw from a range of evidence-informed models to support emotional expression, deepen insight, and encourage meaningful behavioural change.

Specialist Wellness Counselling

My counselling approach is holistic, wellness-focused, and systems-based. I incorporate creativity, practical coping strategies, and whole-person wellbeing into our work. Together, we explore patterns, strengths, relationships, and life contexts to support balanced and sustainable growth.

Art Therapy

My art therapy practice is trauma-informed and grounded in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural, and humanistic principles. It offers a non-verbal and creative way to process emotions, experiences, and personal meaning.

You do not need artistic skill or experience. The focus is on expression, not aesthetics.

Regular, consistent therapy builds continuity and trust. It provides space to reflect on what emerges in sessions and time to integrate new strategies into daily life between appointments.

My Philosophy

I believe every person is inherently valuable, capable of change, and deserving of understanding.

Therapy is a collaborative and affirming process. You are the expert in your own lived experience. My role is to walk alongside you — offering guidance, reflection, and support as you navigate your healing journey.

In our work together, I strive to provide:

  • Genuine acceptance and compassion

  • A safe and respectful space to explore difficult feelings

  • Tools and insights tailored to your unique needs

  • Encouragement to grow at your own pace

Life can be complex, and healing is rarely linear. There may be setbacks, pauses, and moments of uncertainty. Yet with support, new possibilities become attainable.

If at any point I am not the right fit for you, I will gladly assist you in connecting with someone who better aligns with your needs. You deserve care that honours your journey — and the empathy and support you may not always have received.

Qualifications and Ongoing Development

I hold a Master of Mental Health (Specialising in Art Therapy) from the University of Queensland, along with multiple psychology-based and art facilitation qualifications.

These include:

  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology

  • Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and Sociology

  • Certificate in Art Counselling

  • Certificate in Community Art Facilitation

  • Diploma in Human Resources

  • Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language

I also engage in ongoing professional development in art therapy, psychology, wellbeing, meditation, mindfulness, and allied health training to ensure my practice remains ethical, informed, and responsive.

Professional Memberships
